Movie Review: Shrek

Oh, like wow. This is a review of a CARTOON by a tough, manly person who does nutso things like caving and swimming with barracuda.

Well get over it because this movie kicks some serious ass among both children and adults. It has plenty of cute fairy-tale characters and childish humor for the kiddies and then switches to more subtle low brow humor for the teenagers and adults.

When I saw this movie in the theater I was having fun. Forget tearing the candy bag on the dotted line, I just flipped out the ol' butterfly knife and sliced the whole top off the thing. I had to do this because of how many parents and children were in the place, didn't want them pestering me while I saw it. It wasn't needed as I'll explain later.

When the movie started the whole bloody place was quiet, every last kid and parent. I would've dropped a pin but then Sprint might've sued my buttocks off. Every single person was staring at the screen with rapt attention like they'd never seen at a movie before. Normally you have the putz who has to tell his buddy how plastered they're going to get after the movie, or you have the idiot in the Abe Lincoln hat who sits right in front of you.

All the people had their full attention on the screen and the average height in the place was probably about four foot two. No problems there.

Then when the movie really got going everybody just kept laughing. No shortage of humor in the whole movie. You have the jokes for the kids such as where the donkey is flying, then you have jokes for the adults like when the bird blows it's ass up trying to hit a high note and they have it's eggs for breakfast (I'd have LOVED to see Bambi as venison steaks after his mother got killed, that would've been grand).

My only main complaint with this film is the ending, it just doesn't pull it off with the same style as the rest of the film. The whole song and dance number just didn't really fit in for some reason and I don't like that. I like a good ending (which it was) but I always hope for a great ending. Oh well, I'm still going to buy this movie when it comes out on DVD/VHS.
