Music Review: Garbage: Beautifulgarbage

Reviewed by EVula

I've waited quite a long time to get this album. I've been a huge Garbage fan since they released their first cd, and have enjoyed everything they've done since. This is a great CD, even though it is different from their other stuff.

First, a review for people who aren't familiar with the group's other two albums, Garbage and Version 2.0. Garbage's first album (self-titled) can best be described as "ass kickin' rock." It had an edge to it, and it had great, well, everything. Couple that with Shirley Manson's vocals, and you have one of the best albums of the 90s. Version 2.0 was a damn good album as well, although it was a bit more techno than their first one was. However, this does not mean that they had lost any of their ass-kicking ability.

Beautifulgarbage is further down the techno-type path. However, one of the interesting things about Garbage is, as always, how well they blend modern rock (for lack of a better term) with techno. In all of the songs, you can hear something that isn't quite real (sythesized), but along with it, you can hear the heavy guitar or drums. Shirley Manson is, again, incredible, with a truely seductive voice.

There are several tracks on this CD that may split the vote when it comes to Garbage fans. Some may think that they are changing their sound too much, while others think that they sound just fine. After I listened to the album a few times, it really began to grow on me. Its a great CD to listen to in the car, as there are several hard-hitting, pedal-to-the-metal songs on there that just make it fun to roll the windows down and drive.

All in all, this is a good CD. I suggest that you get on Napster (or whatever) and get a couple of songs off it (Till The Day I Die, Cherry Lips, and Untouchable are good choices). If you like what you hear, go out and buy it (er, don't go out and buy it, go to the links below and buy it...). If you don't like what you hear, well, ditch the MP3s and go about living in your happy, albeit Garbage-deprived, existance. :)
