Polaris

The Polarans have a culture as mysterious as their technology. Their ships perform several levels above others in the same class, and they grow most of their technology biologically rather than building it. Polaris ships are alive, and quite intelligent, although they have some industrial components.

Polaris society is divided into castes. The Nil'kemorya are the warrior caste who protect the Polaris from external threats. The P'aedt are scientists, concerned mostly with theoretical matters. The Ver'ash, engineers and healers, deal in medicine and the other practical sciences. The Tre'pira, the worker caste, are one of the most respected castes. The Mu'hari ('servants of all') are seen as a 'casteless' caste, and have several roles. In addition to aiding any other Polaran in what ever ways possible, the Mu'hari are also the Polaran diplomats, scouts, spies, police, secret police, prosecutors, jury, and judges. Finally, the Kel'ariy are the leadership of the Polaris. They are chosen from the respected members of the other castes. Each caste has a different set of "unwritten rules of conduct," and a different role within the social structure. Polaris freighters are always unarmed in acknowledgement of the events of the Polaris Civil War.

It is important to note that Polaris castes do not constitute a form of discrimination like the caste systems in some Earth cultures. Each young Polaran is free to join any caste whose entry requirements he or she meets, and, apart from the ruling Kel'ariy, whose members are chosen from the other castes, the castes are equal partners in society with differing roles.

The Polaris grew out of a colonisation expedition that left during the time of the Colonial Council, but they were never part of it. In fact, without the intervention of the Vell-os, the two governments would have gone to war over the destruction of a Council diplomatic fleet destroyed by the Polaris after it entered their territory without permission. This intervention led to the Vell-os wars, where the Vell-os were enslaved by the Colonial Council and eventually its successor, the Federation. The Polarans hope to be able to repay this debt some time. Their storyline begins in Auroran space with a mission to transport a woman named Mu'Randa.

Strengths:

Polaris ships are the most advanced technology in EV Nova. They easily outclass their counterparts from any other government in shielding, weaponry, speed, range, and other more unique features.

Polaris space is completely free of piracy and civil war.

Weaknesses:

The Polarans are bordered on the north-east by the Wraith, a race of sentient space-dwelling beings who attack them for no apparent reason.

The isolationism of the Polarans has resulted in distrust from the other governments. Both the Federation and Auroran Empire clash with the Polaris at their borders, although there is no declared war.

The Polarans have the smallest population of the principal governments, and it is suggested that they have fewer warships than the Federation or the Auroran Empire.
